School Links and Information
Most schools provide multiple levels of support within general education, which are able to meet most student’s needs. For eligible students, additional support can be provided through accommodations (504 Plan) or special education (Individualized Education Program, or IEP), depending on the student’s needs.

A student is eligible for a 504 Plan and school accommodations when they have or are regarded as having an impairment that limits one or more major life functions. More information is available from the Oregon Department of Education on its Section 504 website.

A student is eligible for an IEP if they meet the state’s eligibility criteria established under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Oregon Revised Statute (ORS), and Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR). School districts are legally obligated to find all eligible students within their jurisdiction. To do this, school districts are required to complete comprehensive evaluations when they suspect or have reason to suspect a disability that requires special education.
Additionally, if your school has completed an evaluation for special education and you disagree with it, you are entitled to an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) at public expense (free to your family). More information is available from the Oregon Department of Education’s Special Education website.
In addition to medical screenings, I can provide input that your child’s school district must consider when completing a comprehensive evaluation and determining eligibility for a 504 Plan or IEP.
